1. Sonnet 1

    by Ethan Hugh

Then she left her lips with myself amidst
And those stars that I long to touch draw near
Void was romance and prevailing a tear
Nothing was told, like mole, like spy, love breeds
When slavery tortures this madman bleeds
Writhing in pain where no reason is clear
Eating lowly earth inflating his fear
For this madman looks up reciting creeds
He squirmed to get past the green thorny blight
Finds his dream overlooked, human and true
He endured suff’ring ‘fore trying to fight
Finds his dream and amazed for none a clue
Learned that all his pain, not wasted that night
For in love, he learned there is no preview.
